    Mit 165.000 ha Rebfläche ist die Mittelmeer-Insel die größte Weinbau-Region Italiens und würde auch in einer Länderreihung weltweit im Spitzenfeld liegen. Die Griechen gründeten ab dem 8. Jahrhundert vor Christi einige Kolonien und gaben ihr zuerst nach der dreieckigen Form den Namen Trinacri und dann nach dem Siculi-Bergvolk den endgültigen Namen. Heute werden in diesem Teil Südeuropas bemerkenswerter mehr Weißweine als Rotweine angebaut, Sizilien ist einfach sehr facettenreich! Auf der Insel sind Spitze-Weingüter wie Donnafugata, Planeta und Tasca d'Almerita beheimatet. Besonders die Weine der Region Etna DOC sorgen in jüngster Zeit immer wieder für Aufsehen.
