Susumaniello
Discover the "DUE LUPI" Susumaniello Salento IGP – a distinctive red wine from Apulia, made from the rare autochthonous grape variety Susumaniello. This almost extinct grape is experiencing a renaissance and produces wines of impressive depth and complexity.
Wine Description:
In the glass, the Susumaniello presents itself in a medium ruby red. The bouquet is rich and multifaceted, with dominant aromas of dark berries, underpinned by notes of forest floor and a hint of chocolate. On the palate, the wine spreads softly and creamily, accompanied by fresh berry flavors and a tight acidity that is in perfect harmony with the fruit and the fine-grained tannins. A wine of remarkable elegance and finesse.
Origin and Wine Region:
This wine comes from the Salento region in Apulia, an area known for its autochthonous grape varieties and traditional viticultural methods. The Felline winery, part of Accademia dei Racemi, has made it its mission to revive rare and almost forgotten grape varieties like Susumaniello and transform them into first-class wines.
Winemaking:
The grapes for this wine are grown naturally and processed gently after harvesting. Maturation takes place for 12 to 18 months in stainless steel tanks and then in the bottle, to preserve the freshness and varietal aromas. The wine is filtered and has an alcohol content of 14% vol.
Food Pairings:
Susumaniello is a versatile food companion and pairs excellently with dark meat, grilled dishes, well-aged cheese, as well as pasta and casseroles. It is also an excellent choice with mild game dishes and risotto. Serve the wine at a temperature of 16–18 °C to enjoy its full range of aromas.
Conclusion:
The Susumaniello Salento IGP is an impressive red wine that celebrates the rediscovery of an almost forgotten grape variety. With its harmonious structure and complex aromas, it offers a unique taste experience for wine lovers seeking something special. A must for connoisseurs of Italian wines and those who aspire to be.
